PetWave premium frozen live Insects are the premium high quality choice, grown locally across Australia. PetWave is the perfect choice for your precious pet to help provide variety in a balanced and naturally nutritious diet.
Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) are the larvae of mealworm beetles. They have four stages of life: egg, larvae, pupa and adult beetle. Mealworms eat and grow until they have stored sufficient energy to transform into a pupa and then into a beetle.
PetWave premium quality mealworms can be added to the diet of many animals to help provide variety in a balanced and naturally nutritious diet. They are a clean and easily handled food.
Mealworms are high in protein and fat so are good for treats and building up young, sick, injured or gravid animals. Like any treat, mealworms should not be regarded as a stable food and always offered as part of a varied and well-balanced diet.
Mealworms contain: 59% Moisture, 10% Protein, 13% Fat, 330mg/kg Calcium and 1650mg/kg Phosphorus. No feeders supplied by PetWave are fed hormones.
Mealworms are suitable for feeding to the following pets:
- Frogs & Turtles
- Predatory Fish
- Insect eating birds
- Rats & Mice
Some delicate pet species can find mealworms hard to digest, due their hard exoskeleton.
Refer to PetWave Care Sheets for more information.
Frozen feeders should be defrosted to body temperature prior to feeding, and are then readily accepted by most pets.
Frozen Pet Food Special Shipping Requirements
At PetWave we are experts at shipping frozen pet food across Australia. All PetWave frozen pet food is professionally packed and shipped with absolute care and diligence. We ship our products as early as possible after you order on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week to ensure that there is no risk of our frozen pet food being delayed over the weekend.
Heat is obviously the main enemy of frozen pet food during shipping. To address this, all shipping options are designed to minimise transport time and ensure that our frozen pet food arrives at your door in good order. Delivery options include insulated polystyrene eskies (commonly used for shipping medical, pharmaceutical and seafood frozen products) packed with ice packs or dry ice for our road and air freight options or refrigerated freight where available. Regardless of which transportation method, your products will arrive at your door frozen.
We also need to overcome the challenge that small amounts of frozen pet food thaw much quicker than larger amounts. This is due to the relative thermal mass (thermodynamics). For example, one small package of day old quails will thaw hundreds of times quicker than a box full of large rats. Therefore, as an added protection PetWave ensures that all frozen orders have a minimum weight of frozen product to maintain quality.
When we identify unusually extreme temperature forecasts (cold or hot), we will either include extra packaging (such as heat packs or dry ice) or delay delivery until a more appropriate time.
